Pittsburgh Penguins star center Sidney Crosby, 37, injured last week in a loss to the New Jersey Devils, told reporters on Monday that he's "good to go" for Team Canada's opener against Sweden in the 4 Nations Face-Off Wednesday night in Montreal.

Sidney Crosby says he's good to go for Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off after getting injured in one of Pittsburgh's final games before the break in the NHL season.

Canada opened practice Monday ahead of 4 Nations with a relieving injury return and a first look at its plan for lines and pairings.

Team Canada will have Pittsburgh Penguins superstar captain Sidney Crosby when they open the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament.

Crosby missed his first game in over two years Friday but also appeared to take a step toward playing in the 4 Nations next week.

“Sidney Crosby is traveling to Montreal and hopes to play for Canada in the 4 Nations Face-Off…” Kaplan reported. “Crosby…is desperate to play in the tournament, sources told ESPN. The Penguins will leave the decision up to Crosby whether or not he participates, and he will take as much time as he can to decide if he's ready, sources told ESPN.”

Crosby suffered the injury during Tuesday’s game against the New Jersey Devils. He briefly left the ice but returned to finish the game. However, he did not participate in practice Wednesday and has missed the Penguins’ last two games against the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers after skating on his own on Thursday and in Friday's practice.

According to a new report from NHL insider Darren Dreger, Sidney Crosby is expected to travel to Montreal in preparation to play the 4 Nations Faceoff, but it's not guaranteed he will be named on the final roster.
