San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Chief Robert Logan said they responded to reports of a plane down in the Murphy Canyon neighborhood, near Sculpin Street and Santo Road, just before 4 a.m.
The preliminary report did not indicate a cause for the crash. It said the pilot was on an instrument approach in dense fog when he clipped a transmission line about 95 feet from the ground.
