A fire broke out aboard the Morning Midas, a 600-foot Liberian-flagged cargo ship traveling from China to Mexico with more than 3,000 vehicles onboard—751 of them either fully electric or hybrid models.

An auto transport ship carrying hundreds of EVs and in total a few thousand cars was abandoned in the Pacific Ocean. The United States Coast Guard says in a press release it responded on the afternoon of June 4 to the situation,
