The Michelin guide awards stars to restaurants for excellence in food, drinks and service. A restaurant can earn up to three stars, widely considered the highest honour any restaurant can achieve. Inspectors conduct multiple visits before a rating is issued.

On Wednesday the company behind the global dining compendium added 13 restaurants to its California guide, with three in the L.A. area.

The Michelin Guide has added 13 new restaurants to its California list, including three in the Bay Area. Korean restaurant Sungho was the only San Francisco addition to the list, which also added two other Bay Area winners: Ethel's Fancy in Palo Alto and Indian restaurant Eylan in Menlo Park.
