Coming off a two-game losing streak, coach Joe Philbin was asked about his starters. Philbin insisted no one was assured they would start. When someone said that obviously didn’t include franchise quarterback Ryan Tannehill, Philbin — who never met an exception to a rule he liked — refused to confirm even Tannehill would play.

In the opening week of the NFL preseason, many players with Longhorns ties took the field. That includes Quinn Ewers, who saw his first snaps under center for the Miami Dolphins. The former Longhorn QB got an extended look against the Bears, struggling in his debut.
