The Allegheny Highland Prosperity Foundation was started to help those impacted by Hurricane Helene. Now, the foundation is shifting focus to the victims of flooding in Allegany County.

Local crews are being dispatched to Allegany County, Maryland Tuesday afternoon to assist with flood response.Officials in Maryland said multiple areas in the county have already been evacuated and that water rescue crews are staged and ready across the county.

The Maryland Department of Emergency Management is surveying residential areas in Lonaconing, Maryland after flooding left some streets impassable.

The elementary school sits near Georges Creek, a tributary of the Potomac River, which county officials said remains "the most critical area of concern."

First responders went door-to-door throughout Georges Creek communities Wednesday to check on residents and assess damage in the wake of flash flooding caused by heavy rain Tuesday. Allegany County Public Schools said all of the 12 students who spent the night at Mountain Ridge High School after being evacuated from Westernport-area schools had been picked up by parents.
