India's benchmark indexes are poised to open lower on Friday, and the rupee is likely to weaken after the country's defence ministry said that military installations were targeted by drones and missiles originating from Pakistan.

India and Pakistan accused each other Thursday of further hostile acts, including drone attacks, as the nuclear-armed neighbors edged closer to a head-on military confrontation.

In a coordinated military response, India on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday foiled Pakistan’s attempted drone and missile strikes on 15 Indian cities. According to the Indian Army, Pakistan launched a wave of aerial attacks on the night of May 7–8, attempting to strike Indian military installations in Northern and Western India.
