Grammy winner Chappell Roan explained in E! News’ exclusive clip what prompted her temporary shift away from pop music and toward country music with her new song “The Giver.”

Roan also revealed her eagerly-anticipated single "The Giver" was inspired by a fondness for Big & Rich's "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy)."

I really just did it for fun,” Roan said of the new single. “I’m not switching genres or anything. I wanted to write a country song because I just thought it would be funny. It’s campy and fun.” The singer explained that her connection to country music goes back many years.

Chappell Roan has promised fans her next album will be a pop record. The Pink Pony Club hitmaker is currently promoting her new song, titled The Giver, which is due to drop on Thursday. Reflecting on the country track in an interview for Apple Music's Today's Country Radio with Kelleigh Bannen,
