ALLYourgames proclaims the first bit of marketing copy for the ROG Xbox Ally, the third-gen Asus handheld PC that’s also borrowing Microsoft’s Xbox brand. “This is an Xbox,” declares the very next line.

Microsoft has needed to respond to SteamOS ever since the Steam Deck launched three years ago, and it has steadily been tweaking its Xbox app and the Xbox Game Bar on Windows to make both more handheld-friendly. But there was always a bigger overhaul of Windows required, and we’re starting to see parts of that today.

Xbox players will soon get the freedom to play anywhere with two handheld consoles that Microsoft plans to release this holiday season.
