Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said Sunday that he would be willing to call indefinite special sessions of the state’s legislature to force through a new congressional map, attempting to escalate pressure on Texas Democrats who have stonewalled votes by fleeing the state.

In court papers filed Friday, the Democrats argued that their quorum-breaking tactic is an affirmation of their legislative duties, not an abdication of it.

"The lives of Texans come second to the desires of President Trump and his loyalists," the Houston Chronicle's editorial board wrote Monday.
