The Houston Rockets have placed their bets on Kevin Durant as their star for the 2025-26 NBA season. Yet, with only a year left on his contract, questions surround his future. For that reason, the franchise has reportedly reached a decision about the veteran’s future beyond this season.

ESPN's Tim MacMahon gave an update on the state of Durant's contract extension. According to him, while the Rockets intend to give him a new deal, he's not the top priority right now. Both sides could wait for the perfect opportunity to discuss the matter.

As it stands, Kevin Durant is set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer, meaning that he could leave the Rockets after just one season with the team. While the 36-year-old legend is the Rockets' best player (26.6 points per game last season), the organization is not rushing to commit the next five years to the 2x Finals MVP.
