The biggest setback of the summer arrived when Tottenham lost out on Eberechi Eze, a player who had been central to their plans and who is now bound for Arsenal, a move that left Thomas Frank staring at a squad in need of invention and a search for creativity that can no longer be delayed.

Earlier this month, Tottenham were offered the chance to sign Lucas Paqeuta from West Ham, but didn’t show a great deal of interest in doing a deal at the time. Spurs remain on the hunt for a new number ten and perhaps that stance could change as the window reaches its climax.
