Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Saints won't have to pay Carr's $30 million guaranteed salary for the upcoming season and the club won't seek reimbursement for his $10 million roster and signing bonus that was paid in March.

New Orleans Saints veteran starting quarterback Derek Carr said he decided to retire because of an injury in his right shoulder.

Carr signed a four-year, $150 million contract with the Saints in 2023. In an effort to free up cap space, the Saints in March restructured Carr's contract, lowering his '25 cap hit to $20.4 million at the time. Carr's '26 cap figure was set to balloon to $69.2 million.
