The Dallas Mavericks have had a bevy of elite players take the floor during their franchise history with only one having won a regular season MVP award.

Gilgeous-Alexander now makes it seven straight years that a player born outside the U.S. won MVP, extending the longest such streak in league history.

During the 2022-23 season, the NBA renamed the award after five-time NBA MVP Michael Jordan. As of 2024, a player must play at least 65 of the 82 regular-season games in order to be eligible for the honor. In 2025, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander won the award for the first time. He's only the second Canadian to win MVP, behind Steve Nash.
