Parts of the southern Plains and western Ozarks are facing the risk of severe weather, including potential tornadoes, over Memorial Day weekend, according to forecasters at the National Weather Service (NWS).
Three tornadoes, including one that traveled over 14 miles, touched down in western Pennsylvania on Wednesday as a storm front crossed the region, according to the National Weather Service.
The 2025 tornado season in the United States is the most active in over a decade, with more preliminary tornado reports by May 20 than in any year since 2011.
More than 900 tornadoes have already been reported in the U.S. this year, according to the National Weather Service. This past week saw outbreaks in more than a dozen states that damaged or destroyed countless homes and killed at least 42 people.
Two EF2 tornadoes hit opposite sides of Bennett while another EF2 tore up part of Elkhorn Ranch in Elbert County and an EF1 blew across Manila Village in Arapahoe County.

Storm surveys are underway following a night of severe weather across North Texas. As of Monday afternoon, at least one tornado has been confirmed near the City of Gordon, located about 66 miles west of Fort Worth. Gordon ISD canceled classes for the week due to extensive damage on campus from the storms.
As a storm system approached Jackson, in Southeastern Kentucky, on May 16, a few individuals agreed to work double shifts to make sure timely warnings continued during the overnight hours, said Tom Fahy, legislative director for the National Weather Service Employees Organization.
Two tornadoes that tore across parts of Adams, Arapahoe and Elbert counties on Sunday, leaving dozens of destroyed or damaged buildings in their wake, were rated EF2, National Weather Service meteorologists said Tuesday.
