The cuts at Microsoft reflect an overall trend across the tech industry, with over 80,000 positions eliminated in 2025, according to one count.

In a memo sent to employees on Thursday, CEO Satya Nadella called this "seeming incongruence" as the "enigma of success." The company expects its overall number of employees to remain roughly flat.
