Sorensen has spent the last three years in the organization, holding titles of defensive assistant, defensive passing game coordinator and nickelback coach before being named defensive coordinator prior to last season.

The 49ers defensive scheme is somewhat outdated. They're still running the same defensive scheme that the Seahawks ran 10 years ago under head coach Pete Carroll. The Seahawks don't even run this scheme anymore.
