A nightly curfew has been implemented in Laurel County, Kentucky as recovery efforts begin in the wake of the deadly tornado that ripped through the area on early Saturday.

Twenty-eight people are dead, more than a dozen are injured, and even more are left without a home after storms tore through three states on Friday. Seventeen of those deaths were in Laurel County, Kentucky where volunteers and home owners are now going through the rubble to see if they can save anything.

Fire officials say a first responder was found on top of his wife, shielding her from the tornado, and he may have even known it was her.
