An area west of Mexico is being monitored for a possible tropical storm or hurricane next week as a storm-sparking pulse moves across the Pacific Ocean.

Of those storms, the federal weather agency forecasts that six to 10 will be hurricanes — with three to five of them major. NOAA’s Atlantic hurricane outlook was released during a news conference Thursday, 10 days before the June 1 start of the season.

The upcoming hurricane season is nearing and forecasters say it'll more than likely be a significant one. There's a 60% chance that tropical storm activity will be above normal with just a 30% chance of a near-normal season,
