Thanks to an update to Steam in October 2016, the client now supports the PS4 controller, and games will display the correct face button icons (should developers have provided that information).

The controller can’t change any muscle memory you’ve built up for one layout or the other, but the labels will at least provide a reminder of which buttons you should be pressing.
