The City of Monroe water system is separate from the Union County water system, and county water customers are not impacted.

The city of Monroe is under a boil water advisory Thursday morning after crews found E. coli contaminating the water.

The Union County Sheriff's Office said the highway was closed near Secrest Avenue, which is between Monroe and Wingate. Deputies said the road was shut down due to a heavy police presence.
