MINNEAPOLIS — After days of heated debate, the Minneapolis City Council unanimously agreed Thursday to table a controversial proposal to delay $1.2 million of funding for violence prevention groups. The money, typically awarded to community groups, has been under scrutiny as of late.

Minneapolis City Council members are proposing to move some of the city’s violence prevention programming to Hennepin County, having lost confidence in the embattled neighborhood safety department (NSD) at city hall.

After a contentious, days-long debate over the future of violence intervention services, Minneapolis City Council on Thursday voted to delay any decision on shifting group violence intervention programs to Hennepin County.
