In the main event of Night 1 on Saturday, CM Punk defeated Gunther to win the world heavyweight championship. Punk's celebration was short-lived, however, as Seth Rollins returned to cash in the Money in the Bank contract and win the title just minutes after Punk became champion.

The go-home "WWE SmackDown" before SummerSlam 2025 warmed up Newark with quite a surprise. Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena opened the night to set the table for his big rematch against Cody Rhodes, but instead of the Cena we've seen for most of 2025, he reverted to his iconic "Super Cena" ways.
