Five medical workers at the Walker County Jail have been indicted on federal charges in connection with the 2023 death of Tony Mitchell. The two-count indictment, unsealed Tuesday, charges the medical workers with conspiracy against rights and deprivation of rights.

Six more former Walker County Jail employees have been indicted on federal charges in connection with the death of an inmate who died after allegedly spending two weeks "naked, wet, cold, and covered in feces" on the floor of a cement cell.
