Oakmont Country Club beat up the world's elite for four days, and the golfer who handled adversity the best was someone accustomed to it.

The final round of the U.S. Open on Sunday at Oakmont Country Club will resume after a near two-hour delay caused by heavy rain with overnight leader Sam Burns clinging to a one-shot lead over Australian Adam Scott.

The 2025 U.S. Open started with 14 LIV Golf players in the field at Oakmont Country Club. Only six made the cut (which was 7 over), among those a pair of past champions who couldn't get into contention on the weekend.

From an overhead view, the sight is somewhat jarring. The Pennsylvania Turnpike essentially cuts Oakmont's golf course in half.

The U.S. Open uses a two-hole aggregate playoff to determine its champion. In this format, if two or more players are tied after 72 holes of regulation, they will compete over two additional holes with the player producing the lowest total score winning.

Sam Burns entered the final round of the 2025 U.S. Open in the lead, and it appeared he might be the only player to survive Oakmont. That was not the case.

The 18-hole layout is nearly 7,500 yards long and hilly, with three par-3 holes longer than 200 yards alongside one par-5 that exceeds 600. Then there are the especially sandy bunkers and the New York crowd that can be, well...a New York crowd.
