Officers talked with the driver for a few minutes before that driver sped off, hurting one of the children who was left outside the car. However, police say the driver didn’t leave and instead circled the parking lot and rammed an officer with his car. Investigators say an officer shot at the suspect and then arrested him.

North Las Vegas police shot a man accused of driving a vehicle that hit an officer in a northeast valley parking lot Sunday afternoon, according to the North Las Vegas Police Department.

“A short time after, more than 30 rounds were fired,” police said. “Only one individual was struck, the male that was deceased, and that was the only injury that we know of at this time.” Authorities said that the vehicle then left the area.
