The top Democrat on the Senate Commerce Committee said Thursday the United States needs to reconsider the significant military helicopter flights near one of the most congested U.S. airports after a midair collision in Washington killed 67 people.

The training of U.S. military helicopter pilots is getting heightened attention following the mid-air collision between an Army Black Hawk helicopter and a passenger jet.

An American Airlines jet and an Army helicopter collided over Washington, D.C., Wednesday night. All 67 people aboard the aircraft are presumed dead.
