Hollywood paid tribute to Gene Hackman, who was found dead along with his wife, Betsy Arakawa, and their dog in their New Mexico home.

Gene Hackman truly is one of the greats, and he always will be. From critical classics like The French Connection and Unforgiven to 1978’s Superman (which is one of the best Superman movies) where he played Lex Luthor to modern cult classics like The Royal Tenenbaums, he truly left a remarkable mark on cinema. His legacy will be remembered forever.

Gene Hackman, the prolific Oscar-winning actor whose studied portraits ranged from reluctant heroes to conniving villains and made him one of the industry’s most respected and honored performers, has been found dead along with his wife at their home.

A two-time Academy Award winner and a dogged Everyman in many of his roles, Hackman was remembered by collaborators and co-stars after his death.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff's office initially said it did not believe "foul play was a factor," but a later search warrant affidavit ruled their deaths as "suspicious" amid an ongoing investigation.
