Chinese authorities are using nets, spraying insecticide and even deploying drones to fight the mosquito-borne chikungunya virus, which has infected thousands of people.

Chikungunya outbreaks have occurred in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas, and islands of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. There is a risk of the virus being spread to unaffected areas by infected travellers, according to CDC guidance.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a travel advisory Friday, warning of a chikungunya outbreak in Guangdong province, southeast China, with most cases reported in Foshan city.
