Two days after opening the Charles Schwab Challenge with an eagle and a day after he fought to make the weekend, Scheffler stormed back into outside contention with a six-under-par 64 that put the World No. 1 six shots back of leaders Ben Griffin and Matt Schmid.

After starting Saturday sharing the lead, Ben Griffin and Matthias Schmid continued their control of the leaderboard at the Charles Schwab Challenge with the pair nursing a 4-stroke lead headed into Sunday’s final round. Schmid, a German native and PGA Tour rookie, started his day with three straight birdies, showcasing his putting prowess.

Scheffler hasn't won the annual PGA Tour event played at Colonial Country Club in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex near where Scheffler grew up and still lives. He has also never won three PGA Tour starts in a row,
